What is constipation?   


Constipation is a very common gastrointestinal complaint that implies uncomfortable, occasional or irregular bowel movements. 

This condition has several symptoms that are easy to recognize. You say that a person might be constipated, if she or he experiences rare, small, hard o difficult to expel stools. Usually the person may also feel uncomfortable or painful bowel movements and feel abdominal pain and bloating.  

In general, you are not constipated if your stools are soft and pass easily without strain or discomfort.Constipation is a very common gastrointestinal complaint that implies uncomfortable, occasional or irregular bowel movements. 

 Who is  affected?

Constipation can affect anyone of any age, from birth to old age, but is more common in women than in men and in adults than in children. It has been estimated that of every 5 people, at least one suffers from constipation.  

 

 Factors influencing constipation

- Diets low in fiber and / or fluid.
- Changes in customs and lifestyle, for example travel. 
- Stages of life such as pregnancy and old age.
- Medications.
- Pathologies such as irritable bowel syndrome.
- Bad habits such as ignoring the stimulus of defecation.
